ULM students to honor veterans on #GivingTuesday

Special to the News Star

The cities of Monroe and West Monroe have both proclaimed Dec. 1 as “Giving Tuesday!” In that spirit, the University of Louisiana at Monroe urges all to give of your time or your resources to serve the community

This #GivingTuesday, ULM is calling on all alumni and supporters to use their social media circle to help spread the word.

Tuesday is #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. This #GivingTuesday, ULM is calling on all alumni and supporters to use their social media circle to help spread the word.

#ULMGivingTuesday is all about students giving back through service to our veterans throughout the year and donors contributing to student scholarships in honor of these heroes. Students will be writing holiday cards, signing up to volunteer at the NELA War Veterans Home in 2016, and helping raise funds. All donations made this Tuesday will go into the ULM General Scholarship Fund in the name of the residents of the NELA War Veterans Home.

On Tuesday, students will be stopping by (at their convenience) to sign holiday cards for the residents of the NELA War Veterans Home. There will also be a sign-up sheet for those who would like to commit to volunteering at the home in 2016. At noon, a large group of students will be signing holiday cards in the back of the SUB Ballroom on the second floor.

Northeast Louisiana has a rich history of patriotism and honoring military service. Monroe is home to the Chennault Aviation & Military Museum & historic Selman Field; ULM chose “Warhawks” as their mascot in part to honor General Chennault, the Louisiana Flying Tigers, and their indelible connection to our area; and The Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery is scheduled to open in 2016.

The scholarship fund in honor of the Residents of the NELA War Veterans Home is accepting donations. Those who donate can choose to honor a specific military veteran by donating in their name.
