The Monroe Regional Airport’s main runway will be temporarily shut down 20 days to complete safety constructions beginning Sept. 14.

Monroe Airport director Ron Phillips said airlines will use the secondary runway while the construction takes place.

“This is not going to impact the number of flights but the number of passengers on each flight. There is weight restrictions so there will just have to be fewer number of passengers on each flight,” Phillips said.

He said the construction project may be completed sooner, but it depends on weather.
