Since 2013, LACA has increased its School Performance Score in the state report card resulting in a six-year extension of its charter by the Louisiana Department of Education. DOE graded Louisiana Connections Academy as the top academic performing virtual school among schools offering an online curriculum.

According to a survey, 38 percent of families who chose to enroll at LACA felt the need for an alternative local public school and 96 percent of all LACA parents would recommend the school to other families.

Big win for charter schools

The top reasons parents choose a virtual charter, like LACA, for their children, according to Ms. Centanni, are:

·       The student requires or wants greater flexibility;

·       The student wants a change from their local school;

·       The student wants a safe learning environment.

"Sometimes students need a break from the traditional brick-and-mortar setting and find that a virtual public charter school can help them catch up or take a break from the day-to-day peer pressures of school," said Ms. Centanni. "We provide a change of mindset."

More than a quarter of a million American students in grades K-12 get their education virtually. Louisiana Connections Academy is open to students from every parish in Louisiana.

The school recently opened its new headquarters in Baton Rouge at 4664 Jamestown Ave. but enrollment is open to students throughout the state This is a free, public online school charter school.
