Delegates from the Monroe City School Board flew to Washington this week to discuss the consent degree the district is under with the Department of Justice.

The consent degree deals with Andrews v. Monroe City School Board, a desegregation suit.

Board President Rodney McFarland said anytime a group from the board meets with the DOJ, the delegation includes the board president, the superintendent, the board vice president and the board attorney.

He, Superintendent Brent Vidrine, Vice President Brenda Shelling and attorney Doug Lawrence went to Washington on Wednesday and returned Thursday after negotiating for about three hours, McFarland said.

A School Board meeting is planned for 4 p.m. Monday. During the meeting, McFarland said, the board will go into executive session to discuss the consent degree. He said the contingent cannot discuss what was negotiated publicly until after the executive session.
