An audit of Downsville Charter School for the year ending June 30, 2015 shows one material weakness.

The finding for reportable conditions states that the school has inadequate separation of duties over the accounting system and that there are too few employees involved with the accounting system to have adequate separation of duties. The finding rolled over from 2014 and is considered unresolved.

The management's response to the report states that the accounting workload can be adequately managed by the current staff. Until the budget allows hiring additional personnel, the current staff will make changes to procedures to add security controls.

"In 2015, additional checklist and verification processes were implemented, such as all checks being reviewed by another staff member before being issued," the management's response states.  Also, the board president reviews and verifies each bank statement. The board receives and reviews monthly financial statements and a detailed check register.

On Nov. 5 at a special-called meeting, the Union Parish School Board revoked the charter granted to Downsville Charter School Inc., which had held the charters since 2012. The board then granted a new charter to Downsville Community Charter Inc.

On Dec. 7, a notice of eviction was served to Downsville Charter School Inc.

Downsville Community Charter Inc. now runs the school.
