The mother of the toddler who died Tuesday at University Health Conway has been arrested on second-degree murder and cruelty to a juvenile.

Adrianna Burks, 2, died at Conway on Tuesday. She was rushed into the emergency room unresponsive, but medical staff were unable to revive the child.

Monroe police responded to the hospital and began an investigation. It was later learned the child had a twin sister, who has not been named. The twin also was taken to emergency room upon learning of the death of her sister.

Medical staff determined the twin sister had three lacerations to her liver. She was subsequently transported to LSUMC-Shreveport for additional medical treatment. Once at LSUMC-Shreveport it was also determined she had kidney damage as well as intestinal damage and is listed in critical but stable condition.

Adrianna Burks' body was sent for an autopsy where it was determined she died of blunt force trauma. The coroner determined she had an almost complete transection of the liver with only a thread holding the liver together. There was also multiple bruising on her face, neck and ears.

Audrey Burks was arrested. She has been booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on a $600,000 bond.
