Epps to act as LDCC chancellor

The Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors appointed Dennis Epps as Acting Chancellor of Louisiana Delta Community College.

Epps' appointment is effective Aug. 1, 2016.

The board made the appointment in late June as a result of current Chancellor Barbara Hanson's decision to pursue other career opportunities.

On Thursday, Hanson joked to the Northeast Louisiana Legislative Delegation that her 5-month-old granddaughter is cuter than the entire audience put together. She said she wants to live closer to her family so her grandchild can have memories of her.

"Please know that I am going to do everything possible to help to make this a smooth transition in leadership," she said.

Hanson said Epps has a lot of experience in workforce development. Hanson said LDCC recently got its numbers back from the state system and the university served 11,806 students in the past year.

"The board and I extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Hanson for her leadership of LDCC and her continuing efforts to ensure a smooth transition in leadership at the college," said LCTCS Board Chairman Woody Oge.  "We are confident that Dennis, with his experience as a leader in workforce development and higher education, will move the college to new heights of growth and success."

Epps has served as the vice president for workforce solutions for the LCTCS Board Office since Feb. 9, 2015.  Prior to joining the LCTCS, he served as the deputy director for the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia. Epps also has held multiple posts within the Georgia Technical College System.  He is the author of numerous publications on economic development practices, civic engagement, collaboration and various other topics.
