The Monroe City School Board is set to determine whether to offer a new contract to Superintendent Brent Vidrine at a Tuesday meeting.

The Monroe City School Board met Tuesday night.

Agenda item No. 9, after executive session, reads: "The Board will decide whether to negotiate and offer a new contract of employment for Dr. Brent Vidrine, Superintendent of Schools, to become effective following the end of the existing contract, in accordance with state law LSA-R.S. 17:54B(1)(b)(iv)."

During executive session, the board will discuss the ongoing desegregation case, a grievance filed by a district employee and the results of the superintendent's evaluation. Any action will be taken once the board resumes in open session.

The board also is set to approve insurance coverage for 2016-17.

Members also will consider or approve a 4 percent pay increase for some classified employees. A motion to give a 4 percent raise was tabled at the June 28 meeting after debate on whether changing the raise from the 3 percent listed on the agenda constituted a substantial change. Board attorney Doug Lawrence said it did.

The agenda lists a recognition section including 2017 Louisiana Elementary Principal of the Year Ann Cook, of Cypress Point University Elementary School, and new principals Eric Davis, of Wossman High School, and Jerry Mayhall, of Martin Luther King Junior High School.

The meeting will be 5 p.m. Tuesday at 2006 Tower Drive, Monroe. The News-Star plans to live stream the event.
