Ouachita

The percent of students who scored advanced, mastery and basic is known as Percent Proficient. In that score, Ouachita Parish exceeded the state Percent Proficient in third through eighth grade testing. Only the district's seventh-grade English Language Arts total was lower than the state's.

Top Percent Proficient areas for Ouachita:

  • 81 percent, third-grade math
  • 76 percent, third-grade science
  • 78 percent, fourth-grade math
  • 76 percent, sixth-grade ELA
  • 75 percent, seventh-grade ELA

Ouachita Schools Superintendent Don Coker said the administration is in the process of looking more deeply into the scores.

"Looking at Percent Proficient ...  for third through eighth grades, we improved in English Language Arts in fifth, seventh and eighth grades and remained the same in third and fifth grades. There was a 3 percent decline in fourth grade Percent Proficient in ELA," Coker said. "In math, I was pleased that we showed substantial growth in Percent Proficient in grade 3 — 6 percent, grade 4 — 10 percent; grade 5 — 5 percent; grade 7  — 7 percent; and grade 8  — 5 percent.  We had a 3 percent decline in sixth-grade math.

"By overall increasing our district Percent Proficient scores, we recognize that our students are doing a better job of mastering the Louisiana standards that our teachers are teaching."
